Well that stray dog I mentioned a few days ago surprised us with a litter of four puppies early this morning! Now I’m really glad that we let her in when we did, if she had given birth while still outdoors, the pups never would have survived! The pups are so cute! My hubby has made a nest for them in a corner of the kitchen near the wood stove so they can keep warm. Now I understand why the owner dumped the dog – he (or she) didn’t want to deal with puppies! That’s really too bad, but not uncommon. We placed a “found”: ad in the local newspaper, and called the local vets, but no one has come forward to claim the dog yet. I have a feeling that this dog will be staying with us; my hubby has really taken to her, and the other dogs don’t seem to mind her being here.
