A trip to the barbershop

Posted By on January 25, 2010

It’s been a long time since I’ve been in a barbershop. Yesterday Jason asked me to take him to the barbershop on the way to the train station. I agreed, so off we went. The barber that he wanted to use already had one customer in her chair and another customer waiting, so we sat down to wait our turn. We chatted for a while and people watched. It was ten am, and all of the customers in the shop at the time were elderly gentlemen. We felt out of place; that’s for sure!

After a few minutes, though, a young couple with a toddler came into the shop. We watched with interest as the the man got into one barber’s chair and the woman got into another, with the toddler on her lap. The man got his hair cut while the toddler got his hair cut too. The toddler didn’t look like he needed a hair cut at all, but who am I to judge? The toddler did not want his hair cut, and even though he sat pretty still he cried most of the time. I felt bad for the little guy. I have to give the barber credit though, he gave the little guy a picture book to look at and eventually had the little guy laughing and smiling.  At the end of the toddler’s haircut the parents gave the toddler a couple of dollar bills to hand to the barber.  That was really cute!
