Do your research

Many years ago I bought AAA insurance.  I always thought it was a great investment.  If I ran out of gas, got a flat tire, needed a jump start, or locked my keys in the car, they were there for me.  And I LOVE their Trip-Tiks!  Even so, they do not take care of all of the needs that I have as a driver.  The other day I called them because my starter had died and I needed a tow.  It was then that I discovered that they would only tow my car for three miles for free, and the rest would be $5.00 per mile!

Well, out where I live, three miles is just spitting distance!  I was really glad that I had towing coverage on my car insurance policy! That coverage covers towing for a lot further. I was surprised a few weeks ago when my sister told me that doesn’t have emergency road service on any kind of auto insurance plan. She said that she told her agent that she needed really cheap car insurance and to give her the bare minimum required by law.  That really disappointed me to hear that; usually really cheap auto insurance leaves out something really important.  So folks, please do your research and make sure you are getting everything you need on your policy!

Have you noticed that the magazines just run the same story over and over again?

I’ve subscribed to several women’s magazines for years. I recently cancelled several of the subscriptions because I noticed that the magazines seem to be re-running the same stories over and over again. The advice they hand out about how to do this or that is the same advice that they handed out every six months for several years. Well, OK, maybe not every six months, maybe every twelve months. But the point is that there is rarely anything new in the magazines other than new ads for products. The articles seem to be the same articles over and over again. Seems like a waste of money to keep buying them!

You have to be careful with Ebay!

I’ve recently starting buying things on Ebay.  I had several friends who told me how they keep getting these great deals on Ebay – fantastic prices!  Well, I had a little bit of mad money to spend, and haven’t had much luck finding pretty jewelry at reasonable prices up here so I decided to see what I could find on Ebay.  I was amazed at how much pretty jewelry there is up for auction!  Most of it is very reasonably priced; even the shipping is usually a fair price.  Well, I went ahead and bid on several things that I liked.  I never expected to win so many of the auctions!  But I did win a lot of them, so now I have a lot of jewelry on the way!  I’m glad it was all really inexpensive stuff!  Now I have to figure out a new way to store the jewelry – specifically the earrings.  I found some earring holders on Ebay but I don’t like the looks of them.  Maybe I’ll have to be creative and make my own!

Finding a good repair shop

One of the greatest things about the Internet is how it is empowering consumers world wide.  I can remember that it wasn’t very long ago that the consumer was at the mercy of their local automobile repair shops.  I can remember watching a lot of television news reports about consumers being ripped off by automobile service stations!  But with the evolving of the Internet, there are now great ways to make sure that you are not getting ripped off.

For example, if you lived in Houston and needed an oil change or tune up for your Acura Integra, you could go to this great website that I found called repairpal.com and type in the words “Houston auto repair” in their search box and you will be shown a list of reputable service stations. You can also get an estimate of what it should cost you. I like that feature the best because if you know in advance about how much it should cost, then you are armed and ready to deal with the vermin that might try to take advantage of you!  I like that kind of power, don’t you?

Happy Birthday dear sister

cake3Today is my dear sister ‘Reen’s birthday. She is one year older than me, and she has always been a source of support, advice, and love for me. We live hundreds of miles apart at this time and I miss her dearly. We haven’t seen each other in several years, but talk on the phone and keep in touch with emails, etc. You couldn’t ask for a better sister than ‘Reen is! Happy birthday sweetie! I love you! Hope you have a great day!
