When did wholesale become retail?

When I was growing up, I learned that you could only buy wholesale if you, yourself, were planning on re-selling the item, and that you needed a tax ID number for that. So it always surprises me when I find a business that has the word “wholesale” in their name that will sell to the average consumer.
I’ve been looking for a good deal on Ceiling Fans lately. I’d like to put a Ceiling Fan in the stairway. I’ve noticed a lot of warm air pooling at the top of the ceiling, and I”d like to have it blown back down to warm up the living area of the house! I hate wasting all that good heat!
I’ve found some really great prices at the Hansen Wholesale Ceiling Fans website – there is one fan on sale for only $299.95 that retails for up to $1135! Their website says that they sell to retail customers, so I am definitely going to check them out further!
