I hope it all works out, but I’m worried

My niece had a baby just two days before Christmas. What a cutie pie she is! I’m worried about them because they have to move out of the house that they have been living in. She has already been looking for another place to live for the past four months, but hasn’t been able to find one that she can afford. I suggested that she sign up for one of the many HUD Apartments that I’ve heard people can get when they have limited income, and she thought that was a good idea.
To try to help her I called her city hall and asked them for information about HUD Apartments in their area. They told me that there is a very long waiting list, and the list has been closed for three years! I just don’t understand how this kind of situation can be happening! I hate to think of her ending up in a homeless shelter! Or worse, living in her car! After all, she has a newborn baby to care for!
