No good deed goes unpunished

Recently I was reading something that was written by Mother Teresa about how even when you do good things people will criticize you. And then she goes on to encourage the reader to continue to do good things anyway. Over the years I’ve been bending over backwards doing good deeds for people without any thought of myself, or any thought of reward. These people take all of the help I have to offer and then stab me in the back by telling lies about me to other people that I have to deal with. Then those people act with great hostility towards me. When that happens, I am surprised and hurt. I sure wish Mother Teresa was here to advise me how to get over that feeling of surprise and hurt so I can continue to do those good deeds for those same people! Do you suppose she means to continue to do good deeds, but for different people?
