I can’t imagine having a need for a teen drug treatment center. I feel for my good friend who moved out to the west coast a few years back on her own, as a single mother, with 2 kids. And now her oldest one is needing a good California teen drug rehab. What a nightmare for such a sweet gal to have to go through. Thank goodness for government medical assistance, which she has had to rely on since day one, and the Internet.

She has been sharing with me some of the sites that she has been looking at for teen addiction info. There is some good information to be found online and I’m glad that she trusts me enough to share this issue with me. Lord knows I wish that she wasn’t so far away, I’d love to be able to wrap my arms around her and her kids and be there through the whole ordeal and I know that she would do the same for me, in a heart beat. We have known each other since the 2nd grade and keep in touch almost on a daily basis with emails and cell phones.

The Newport Academy has a great web site that she has turned to for teen drug rehab information and guidance. If anyone out there needs this type of information I would certainly refer them to this Treatment Center’s web site to see if they can help with their particular situation.

I was just finished reading my email, and getting ready to shut down the computer for the night when I read an article that popped up on my screen about how the antidote for deadly coral snake bites is no longer being produced in the USA, and the current lot is expiring. Apparently the drug companies were not making enough of a profit, so they stopped manufacturing the antidote. I think that says a lot about the drug companies; more interested in making a profit than in saving lives. Shame on them!

For about the past two months I’ve been buying a lot of strawberries at the grocery store. They seem to be relatively inexpensive, and I’ve really been enjoying slicing up several and putting them on top of my morning cereal. I’ve noticed that since I’ve been doing that, I don’t get as hungry as quickly as I do if I only have the cereal. That rather surprises me because I always felt that in order for a breakfast to stick to my ribs I needed to add protein. And I don’t think that there is any protein in strawberries! But from what I’ve read, strawberries are one of the “super foods” and knowing that I’m eating something that I really like that is good for me too, well…. That’s a great thing!

I’ve had bad vericose veins since I was in my teens, back in the 70’s. Would you believe that I had the veins stripped from my left leg when I was only 17? I regret having that done at such an early age. I should have waited until after I had finished my childbearing years. Be that as it may, I now find it necessary to wear compression hosiery. I have worn them for at least the past 23 years! So I consider myself somewhat of an expert on the subject.

I feel that buying the custom made for you hosiery a waste of money. I tried that once – I had to get a prescription for them and go to a pharmacy where they took my measurements. They sent away for the stockings. When they arrived they weren’t the right size, my insurance refused to pay for it, and the pharmacy said that once I opened the package that they were not returnable. So I was out over $100 for a pair of hosiery that I couldn’t ever wear!

Now I buy my compression hosiery online at Amazon.com. They have the best price, and you can buy the size you need without having to be professionally measured. And they cost a lot less than $100 a pair! With proper care, each pair can last several years, so they are worth their weight in gold to me!

Yesterday Jeff asked me to help him out. He’s in a real bind. His wife Bonnie has told him that she wants him to buy her some Vera Wang Perfume for her birthday. He has been in a real tizzy since then because he has no idea where he can go to buy any Vera Wang Perfume. So Jeff called me up and begged me to buy some for him to give her. I asked him what in the world made him think that I would know where to go to buy Vera Wang Perfume?

His answer – because you always smell so good! Well, I have to give him credit for being smart enough to come up with that good an answer! I told Jeff that I really didn’t have time to shop for him around town, but I’d go online and see what bargains could be had. I have quite the reputation in our social circle for being a savvy online shopper! I told Jeff that he needs to find out which fragrance in particular Bonnie wanted, and to get back to me and let me know. Once I know for sure which fragrance she wants, I’m sure I can find him a good deal!

A few weeks ago I decided to buy a package of “EZ Combs.” I have waist-long hair and was looking for a different, yet simple way to style my hair while at work. The “EZ Combs” are very pretty, and they certainly looked easy to use. So I bought a package (for about $10.) The package had two pretty sets of combs in it. Each set of combs has a series of pretty elastic bands between them. The theory is that you can put the combs in your hair, stretch the elastic bands across your twist, or ponytail, or bun, and the combs will hold your hair in place.

The package says that they are comfortable and will stay in place even during a workout. Well, I tried for over an hour this past weekend to get those durn things to stay in my hair. I followed the directions exactly to the letter. They looked great until I moved my head. You guessed it, they fell out. Again and again and again. The longest I could get those durn things to stay in my hair was the length of time it took me to walk from the bathroom to the bedroom. Very frustrating. If you can give me some advice on how to make these things stay in my hair, give me a shout!

Erica was telling me that she spent last weekend with her new boyfriend Ray at his weekend cottage. She said that he had a wonderful Swim Spa in a room off of the master bedroom that was amazing. She said that in addition to having the traditional water jets that give you bubbles and a massage, it also had a water treadmill! I’ve never seen any Swim Spas with a treadmill in it!

I’ve been in several spas before on vacations, but never got one for our own house because I don’t want to have one outside, and I don’t have room inside. Besides, I’m not sure that I can afford a higher electric bill at this time!

I think that exercising in a heated pool is a wonderful idea, the low-impact exercise is really good for people who have health issues. And the extra reistance that the water provides makes the workout more effective. Having a spa pool like that would be a terrific luxury to have!

Thankfully I have no food allergies. But others in the family are not so lucky. My niece is having a terrible time with IBS and I’m beginning to think that it has to do with a food allergy. We are trying to keep track of what she eats and when she has the IBS attacks to see if there is any pattern. At the moment, I am concerned that she might be allergic to eggs. That would be really tough to eliminate from her diet. I hope it turns out to be something else.

I’m sorry to say that there are a lot of addictive personalities in my family. In each generation that I’ve known, it seems that most of the people are addicted to SOMETHING! Some of them have gone to some form of Alcohol Rehab program. Depending on their financial circumstances, some have gone to a Private Alcohol Rehab, others have simply tried to stop on their own, and still others have gone to free programs.

Although the results of going to rehab were that the person involved did stop drinking, their basic personality and method of coping have not changed very much. Some of them act like “dry drunks” which can be discouraging. Still others throw themselves into a different addiction of sorts. Whether or not that other addiction is a good one or a bad one is arguable! The addiction still consumes them in one way or another. I wish that there was better counseling available to these people to help them to heal what is troubling them so that they don’t feel the need to block out the pain by throwing themselves into something to escape the pain!
