For many years I have had to wear firm compression pantyhose to treat my varicose veins. Recently I gained a lot of weight and the pantyhose were having trouble accommodating the extra weight, so I decided to try knee-highs for a while, and try to lose some weight. The knee highs for women seem to only be available in the retail stores in the mild compression, so I went online looking to order some firm compression knee highs. I ended up finding some that are completely foot-less, so they are very much like leg warmers. I decided to try them, and ordered several pair. They’ve arrived, and I have them on. I think I like them! I’m thinking that with this time of stocking I might be able to wear a larger variety of shoes in the future, especially sandals!

Today I heard that a dear friend of mine killed himself last weekend. He got really drunk and went out on his snowmobile and parked it on the train tracks. He knew what time the train was coming; he lived near the tracks. He committed suicide by train. He was an alcoholic that had been in and out of rehab for years. I really had hoped that he would straighten his life out and quit drinking, but apparently that was not to be.

One of my favorite classes that I took in college was a business course in marketing. We learned a lot about the different types of advertising a product (or service) and for a while I was actually thinking about pursuing a career in marketing. The problem that I had with that, however, was that I could not find any local Advertising Agency to go to work for!

One day my sister talked to me about how she was starting a venture with a girlfriend that involved creating a local directory/guide to products and services directed at young and expectant mothers. They went to a lot of businesses to sell advertisements to pay for the printing and distribution of the guide. When they were finished with it she mailed a copy to me, and I was quite impressed with the job that they had done. I never did hear whether or not that turned a profit, but she has talked to me about whether or not I would like to participate in the soliciting of advertisements for another guide in a different market.

I told her that I would be willing to help her with the next one, but I’ve been waiting several months to hear exactly what it is that she would like for me to do. At this point I am not even sure what the product/service is going to be; I have a feeling that she might want to pick a different demographic, such as senior citizens retirement and health issues. Considering the aging of America, I think that would be a good idea, don’t you agree?

Thanks to Darwin Barton

I thought there was nothing to being married – move in together, live in the same house and generally just be lovey dovey and happy all the time, right? WRONG! Trying to maintain a house with someone who is so completely your opposite is the toughest thing I think anyone can be asked to do and I’ve had a harder time with it than many of my peers. I’m an only child so I’m not used to sharing my space, particularly my bathroom. I give my husband total control over things like the TV in the living room and direct energy rainbow and even the dog but at the end of the day where I keep my stuff in the bathroom is really important to me and he should know that by now. It’s caused more than a few fights but we’re working through it. I figure if the biggest marital issue we have thus far is learning how to deal with each other in a small space then we’re actually doing okay.

I know a lot of working mothers, much like myself, at various times say that they could really use one of the mental health retreats for women that we all hear so much about. In reality we just need a “mental health” break for a day or two in order to get some rest and get our ducks lined up back in a row. Actually a day or two is just a tease, what we could really use is a few weeks, am I right here ladies? Just a few weeks of some peace and quiet, what a difference that could and would make.

Of course there are plenty of women, whether they are working mothers or not, that really do need the professional services of a good quality mental health retreat, but this is some pretty hard core stuff going on there for this women in need. I can’t say that I know of anyone who ever used these services, but I’m glad to know that they are out there ready to help the women that deserve that kind of help to get through their days and nights.

I think that it is great that people in the medical field are now allowed to wear a wider variety of medical uniforms instead of the old starched white uniforms like they were made to wear in previous years. From what I understand you can now even order custom made scrubs ordered at sites such as http://www.blueskyscrubs.com/categories/Scrubs/Scrubs-for-Women/Original-Scrubs/have to offer men and women alike.

I know what it is like having to wear a “uniform” to work day after day, it does get stale after just a short time, so I really think it is cool that there is now such a great selection of these medical uniforms for all of medical professionals that work so hard on some of the craziest schedules that you can imagine. Feeling good about what you are wearing can make a big difference in your attitude and your work effort, am I right? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this subject, so feel free to leave me a comment or send me an email about medical uniforms.

I was upset when I went to the eye doctors and discovered that I did not have the health insurance coverage that I have had in previous years. When they submitted the claim they said they would were no longer covering me! Well, I thought it was a mistake and told them to go ahead and do the checkup and I would go ahead and put the office visit on my credit card and straightened out with insurance company later. Yes I did need new classes; I picked out a new pair and gave them my credit card to go ahead and order the glasses for me. Well much to my dismay that charge was like $900.00! The office visit itself was $100.00 and the glasses were $800! I knew the classes were going to be expensive but I didn’t think they’re going to cost that much money!

So I was not happy when I got home I called the insurance company and discovered that the insurance provider for my vision had been changed without my knowledge. I was given the information on the company that I needed to call to get insurance forms, the claims and all that good stuff. Long story short the insurance program that I have has participating providers and my eye doctor is not a participating provider. I got the list of participating providers from the Internet and called up my doctor and canceled the order for the eye glasses and asked them to fax me a copy of the paper prescription so I could take it to the place that does participate.

The new classes were still a couple hundred dollars but I wish I could take advantage of the online eye class offers from places like zenni but they don’t do prism prescriptions. I require prism lenses, so I am stuck paying the extra money on glasses.

I remember when MTV was all about music and the music videos that were becoming so popular in the eighties. I don’t know when all of that stopped but it has been a good long time as far as I can remember. Music was replaced by the most outrageous game shows that didn’t do a thing for me, so I pretty much gave up on MTV for well over a decade.

I’m happy to say that I have started watching MTV once again. They have finally come up with some interesting and entertaining shows that I’m getting into watching, when I can. The first show that got me back in good graces with them was Teen Mom, for some reason I’m fascinated with watching these babies that are giving birth and trying to raise their own babies. It’s a great show for young people to watch to try and encourage them from not making the same mistakes that effect so many people that involved in each case.

Anyways, the most recent show that I’ve been watching from time to time on MTV is called “True Life” which provides a window into the struggles, dreams and hopes of young people. Each episode documents the unusual circumstances of these real life young folks and gives them the opportunity to directly tell their own story in a powerful way that reflects the experiences and the cultures of today’s generation. And believe me that have some unique and eye opening stories to tell. If you get a chance please check it out, you might learn something along the way.

This summer has been an extremely hot one and I’m having a hard time finding the right kind of clothes to wear that will keep me cool while dealing with the horrible heat, as well as keep me from catching a chill from all the air conditioners that are blowing freezing cold air at me where ever I go. So my sister came up with a great idea of purchasing some of the nice looking and very fashionable scrub sets that our medical professionals are all wearing these days.

She sent me the link to http://www.blueskyscrubs.com/ in order to show me some of the medical clothing that are available these days on the Internet. I have to say that they do have some pretty cool fashions available and the prices are more than reasonable enough, so I have decided to go ahead and order a set of cotton scrubs and see how they look and feel on me. Some days I don’t feel like going through the hassles of having to shave my legs and putting on a sun dress or a pair of shorts in an effort to keep cool running around town getting my errands done, so this may be a great alternative. If someone thinks that I am a nurse, so be it. And before I forget, thanks sis for the great tip!
