I can’t believe that I let such a pile build up in my bedroom of junk, like old newspapers, magazines, the local yellowpages, old expired coupons and the like. I’m glad though that I do recycle and that all of these are paper products that can be recycled when I go into the part of town that has the recycling containers for us all to use.

These days if I want to do local search for someone or some place all I have to do is go online to sites like local.com and I can find the local restaurants, pet stores, shoe stores, auto repair, etc with just a few clicks on my keyboard, so who needs the paper version of the phone book these days. Of course if you are still in the dark ages and don’t have Internet access you would still rely on the paper version, I just hope that when you are done with them that you would have the common sense and the decency to recycle them, just like I’m planning on doing. We all need to do what we can in order to be a “green” as possible these days and recycling is a big part of becoming “green” in today’s crazy world.

An very good long time friend of mine has asked me to take a get-a-way with her and stay at one of the nicer resorts in Myrtle Beach after Labor Day. She got one heck of a good tax refund check and saved up a good amount of vacation days at her work and wants to head to the beach. She has never been to Myrtle Beach, but since BP and all of the oil issues have ruined most of the other beaches Myrtle Beach hasn’t been touched by any of that mess and sounds like the best place to go.

She has gone online and found Avista Resort to be a perfect top notch Myrtle Beach hotel for us both to stay at, and on her dime to boot! They have a great website at http://avistaresort.com that she found by spending some time on the computer at her work during her lunch breaks. We both like the beach and we both like to play golf, so it is a perfect match. And by going after Labor Day the prices aren’t as pricey and hopefully the place won’t be as crowded either.

It sounds good to me. I can take the time off, but I don’t have a lot of cash to throw around, so if she pays for the lodging I think I can manage the rest. I’m so excited, a girls weekend at the beach, gotta love it!

I was just finished reading my email, and getting ready to shut down the computer for the night when I read an article that popped up on my screen about how the antidote for deadly coral snake bites is no longer being produced in the USA, and the current lot is expiring. Apparently the drug companies were not making enough of a profit, so they stopped manufacturing the antidote. I think that says a lot about the drug companies; more interested in making a profit than in saving lives. Shame on them!

This is a guest post written by Carmella Borkholder.

When I moved to my neighborhood over a year ago I was impressed with how everyone welcomed me. Within the first two weeks I was invited to a neighborhood watch meeting and I knew I had to attend. At the meeting everyone offered up new suggestions to keep the neighborhood safe. One of the suggestions included having a Gilbert first alert alarm installed. I did this soon after, which gives me added comfort when I’m home alone. Since that first meeting I would say that my neighborhood watch has been very effective. Meetings are held once a week and any new activity is reported. Neighbors report any suspicious vehicles parked for long periods of time to each of the members so everyone can keep their eyes open. Weekly night watches are done by some of the more courageous members and signs are posted in almost every lawn stating that we are an active community watch committee. I feel much safer knowing that there are people monitoring the neighborhood. My family and I have been practicing ways to be safe that include locking the doors at night, keeping one light on downstairs to give the impression someone is awake. We also try to collect books like the yellow and white pages up from in front of the door. I have never felt this safe in any neighborhood.

My brother keeps pressuring me to buy a new computer every two years. He’s really involved in computers, he makes his living as the IT technician. He is self-employed and has several clients that keep him busy. He enjoys helping them to buy Custom Computers and setting them up. I have to admire how well he has done for himself. But I digress. I’ve never been one to want to buy a new computer very often. In fact I tend to want to add memory and storage instead of buying new. Part of the reason for that is I never can get rid of the old computers! No one wants to take them!

He has been after me for a year now to order a Custom Computer myself. He wants me to buy a second monitor. He says he has two monitors at home. To be perfectly honest, I don’t know if I would have a use for a second monitor; and I sure don’t think I have the room! Besides, I think I have a few old monitors taking up space in my basement!

I would, however, be interested in looking at some Custom Laptops to see what they might have to offer me. Seems to me that I’m the only one in my family that doesn’t have my very own laptop! I don’t know if a Custom Laptop would save me money or not, but I think I would look into one; I can’t see the logic behind getting one that has a lot of stuff on it that I don’t need.

If you have been reading my blog, then you know that my friend Linda has been having a battle with her mortgage company. They have ruined her credit score with the big credit reporting agencies because they have not provided her with the discharge papers that she needs to prove that she no longer owes them any money on her mortgage. As a consequence, her credit reports are showing that she is delinquent on her mortgage.

She has written to me to let me know that Senator Mark Warner has contacted her about the problems she is having and that he will look into the situation and see if there is something that he can do to help her. I hope that he can get the mortgage company to stop ruining her credit! She’s a nice lady; she doesn’t deserve the aggravation she has been going through.

Guest post by Linda Bradshaw

When my hubby was injured in my car accident in 2007, I tried to get my mortage company for our house in New England that we were trying to sell to grant me a hardship forebearance. Since he wasn’t able to work due to my injuries, I was hopeful to get some empathy from the company. Boy, was I wrong!

Long story short, the mortgage company has dropped the ball and tossed me around from department to department, where I have been met with gross incompetence at every turn.

After over two years, even though we FINALLY did a deed-in-lieu with the company last November, and the deed to the house was transferred into their name in December the company is continuing to send me notices that I owe them the money and the company is still sending notices to the credit agencies that the mortgage is overdue. This is resulting in credit card companies closing my credit cards or lowering my credit limits.

Every time I call Bank of America I am shuttled around from department to department, and told the matter will be escalated and someone will call me back within the next week. That never happens. I have called them about once every two weeks, and nothing is resolved. I have sent them letters, and I get replies that someone will contact me within 20 days, and that never happens either! I got collection calls several times a day for years on end until I finally blocked their telephone number!

As of today, I have been on the phone with Bank of America for the past four hours, being shuttled around from department to department, trying to find some help. I’m on hold at the moment, waiting for a supervisor to talk to me. The lady I just spoke with said that my account was in the process of being assigned to someone in the home retention department!

I have contacted my state senator Mark Warner’s office, asking for help a couple of weeks ago. Haven’t heard back from them yet.

Anyone know a good lawyer that would like to sue this company on my behalf to get this resolved and maybe some punitive damages for emotional distress it is causing? I had hired a lawyer that I was told is an agressive lawyer that loves to sue people, but for some reason he just doesn’t seem to be in the mood to take this on! If you know of a class-action suit going on for people in situations like this, or know a good lawyer that could/would help me, please post comment to this blog and I’ll get the information!

Can you feel my pain?
