One of my favorite classes that I took in college was a business course in marketing. We learned a lot about the different types of advertising a product (or service) and for a while I was actually thinking about pursuing a career in marketing. The problem that I had with that, however, was that I could not find any local Advertising Agency to go to work for!

One day my sister talked to me about how she was starting a venture with a girlfriend that involved creating a local directory/guide to products and services directed at young and expectant mothers. They went to a lot of businesses to sell advertisements to pay for the printing and distribution of the guide. When they were finished with it she mailed a copy to me, and I was quite impressed with the job that they had done. I never did hear whether or not that turned a profit, but she has talked to me about whether or not I would like to participate in the soliciting of advertisements for another guide in a different market.

I told her that I would be willing to help her with the next one, but I’ve been waiting several months to hear exactly what it is that she would like for me to do. At this point I am not even sure what the product/service is going to be; I have a feeling that she might want to pick a different demographic, such as senior citizens retirement and health issues. Considering the aging of America, I think that would be a good idea, don’t you agree?

I haven’t been to a Trade Show in a , so I was some time now, so I’m real excited to have accepted an invitation to attend one with a gal that I used to work with who knows some one that is setting up a booth with numerous displays for his new small business. Anyone who is brave enough to start their own business during these years of economic unrest gets my support. This friend is going to need some help carting all of his stuff in there, like his brand new customized logo canopy for starters and with the set up of all the equipment that he purchased online and just now had delivered and is anxious to put to good use.

He has just received the logo mats, and the special made trade show carpet right in the nick of time for this particular Trade Show that he has been wanting to participate it for quite some time. This is a big deal for him. So we will help him with all of that as well as the work that will be involved with the tear down, the packing along with the loading part that I’m sure my back will be screaming at me about the next day.

I hope that he has a good amount of promotional give-a-ways to hand out. I think I’ll take a look-see online and see what new and cool promotional products they have out now a days. They really have some nifty promotional items that you can have personalized.

We all hear how much money we can save by checking around and getting quotes with various insurance companies. That is something that would have taken hours or even days back in the day before the Internet came into play and we had to rely on our handy dandy local yellow pages (the old paper version). These days it is a much easier process and one that I urge everyone to give a try and see how much money they can save.

I can tell you first hand that I wasn’t all that interested in switching insurance companies. I have been with my agent for over 20 years, I actually worked for him for a short time when he first started his agency, so I felt a loyalty to him, big time. But times are hard and money is an issue, so I took a chance and looked around and was surprised to find that I could be paying a whole lot less, $50 a month, with another carrier. It was hard calling my agent and letting him know that I had decided to switch insurance companies, but he was very understanding and told me that I have to do what I have to do in order to get by in today’s economic crisis. He also told me that he appreciated me calling him directly to inform him of my decision instead of calling the 800 number and canceling my long standing policy with the Regional office. It wasn’t an easy call to make but I’m glad that I did.

I love Reader’s Digest and the fact that they are putting out this wonderful monthly publication in large print. I have noticed that it is beginning to get harder for me to read small print, even though I wear glasses, which I find to be a real pain in the rear, so I don’t wear them as often as I should, but I always wear them while I’m driving.

Yesterday I was in a waiting room that had a March 2011 issue of Reader’s Digest in large print, so I picked it up and started flipping pages to find something interesting to read for the short time that I was left waiting for my turn to be seen. I was overwhelmed with surprise and was delighted to find that I had no trouble reading a single word the whole time I was reading it. So I am going to look into a subscription of the large print editions and start enjoying reading this well known and well established publication without straining my eyes any more. I don’t know if there is an extra charge for the large print, but I’ll be finding out soon with the help of the good old Internet. In fact I think I’ll look into it as soon as I sign off of here tonight.

I think that it is great that people in the medical field are now allowed to wear a wider variety of medical uniforms instead of the old starched white uniforms like they were made to wear in previous years. From what I understand you can now even order custom made scrubs ordered at sites such as http://www.blueskyscrubs.com/categories/Scrubs/Scrubs-for-Women/Original-Scrubs/have to offer men and women alike.

I know what it is like having to wear a “uniform” to work day after day, it does get stale after just a short time, so I really think it is cool that there is now such a great selection of these medical uniforms for all of medical professionals that work so hard on some of the craziest schedules that you can imagine. Feeling good about what you are wearing can make a big difference in your attitude and your work effort, am I right? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this subject, so feel free to leave me a comment or send me an email about medical uniforms.

It really is depressing to know that the days of being called “Tiny Tina” are long gone. Not only was I called that because I am vertically challenged but I was always on the slender side, so that nickname fit me to the T! These days I am shopping for plus size clothing for women and doing most of that online since you can find a much larger variety and better selection on the Internet than you can find bouncing around from store to store around here.

I am all ready getting worked up and all of the holidays that are coming up here real soon. I always gain more weight during the holidays and the cold winter weather months, as most people do that are battling with their weight gain issues. With Halloween coming up and all of the candies that are handed out so freely everywhere I turn it really bites not being able to enjoy a nice sweet treat once in while and on certain occasions, and you don’t even want to get me started on all of the goodies that come our way for Thanksgiving and Christmas, sigh…

Now that summer is totally done and over with we have to look forward to all of the up and coming holidays that are fast approaching us. Halloween is all ways a blast, and then comes Thanksgiving and right behind that of course is Christmas. It looks like this is going to be another Christmas that people will not be able to splurge of tons of presents on friends, their kids and all the other family members that we used to be able to buy nice gifts for 5 years ago or so. We are all ready seeing more ads and commercials on TV and the Internet for the cash advance lenders that will assisting people with their finances during this expensive time of the year.

Something that I just don’t understand is why our government has decided that all of our personal property taxes are due at the end of December, what with all the other expenses that we have to deal with during the holiday season. This due date should really be changed by somebody, some where and quick like.

Thanks to Erasmo Cortez

I logged onto HOMESECURITYSYSTEM.com to research getting an alarm system while I was watching Rachel Ray today. Before I could finish my research, I had to log onto RachelRay.com to enter an on-line contest. She was having a drawing for something that I absolutely love in her television show kitchen. It is the Carolina blue fridge that is named the “Big Chill”. I would love to have one in my kitchen. It is retro looking. It looks like it was probably produced in the early 1960’s, but is as energy efficient as today’s model fridges. I would redecorate my kitchen if I win this fridge. A couple of years back, I really wanted one and looked into purchasing one. Unfortunately, dealers were really far away. The prices listed on-line placed the retail value at well over three thousand dollars. I just knew that my husband would never go for a three thousand dollar fridge, no matter how much I loved it. Who knows, hopefully I will win Rachel’s fridge and get to do a little redecorating of my own!

Times certainly have changed for today’s Advertising Agency employees. Today it is all about the Internet and all the ways that businesses can market their products and/or services. Don’t get me wrong, television, radio, newspapers, magazines, billboards and the Yellow Pages are still being used but so much more is being targeted on the World Wide Web and today’s Advertising Agency is trying very hard to bring their clients into the 21st century.

I remember when I used to watch the hit TV show back in the 60′s – Bewitched – and how both of Sam’s Darren’s (the first Darren was replaced a few years into the show) worked for an Advertising Agency run by his boss, I think his name was Larry Tate. It always seemed to me to be a great business to be in. All the interesting clients that he had to deal with and all the places that he got to travel to while trying “seal the deal.” I can’t help but wonder what Sam, Darren and Larry would think of how things have changed so drastically with so much emphasis on today’s technologies.

I’ve noticed that Face book has really become a place not only for people to socialize and reconnect with friends and family, but many businesses are using Face book in various ways in order to get their name out there since so many are spending so much time on there. I don’t think many people or businesses are using My Space anymore except for numerous teeny boppers that are still stuck on it since it appears to be a whole lot more exciting with all the bells and whistles that they have to offer that generations. Face book is certainly much less dazzling in comparison.
