Giddy Up Go Girl

Coming from a family of horse lovers I really love the idea of the Habitat for Horses site that I just recently found online. Check out this video on the habitatforhorses.org website.

My 11 year old niece is interested in starting in on some horseback riding lessons over the summer so I have started to look around for some items she will need in order to get started, like some footwear for riding horses in case a horse stomps on her foot and of course she will need to buy breeches to wear in order to protect her legs as well. Too many times I got off a horse and couldn’t walk for days due to not wearing the right clothing that you are supposed to wear. Riding horses isn’t cheap, there is a lot involved, but I’m willing to help as much as I can, in fact I think I have some stuff down in the basement that she might be able to use as well. I just hope they are all dry rotted from age, it’s been a while, sigh……

I Hate Chainmail Emails!

Don’t you just hate it when you give out your email address to someone, hoping that they will use it with some commonsense and only contact you when they really need to communicate with you and then all you ever get from them is those stupid “chain” letter emails? I find that to be a constant problem, and I really hate having to send those people polite replies asking them to not do that!

I like to think I am a nice person; I know I’m a busy person, and I HATE getting those kinds of emails “forward this to 8 of your closest friends within five minutes or something bad will happen to you.” I don’t forward it, I reply back to it and then delete it. I don’t know anyone who likes getting those kinds of emails, and it surprises me how many people are so superstitious that they are afraid to “break the chain” by deleting the email.

Sleepaway Camps In New York

When I think of New York, I think of New York City. Manhattan, The Bronx, Times Square. Although I know that there are areas of New York that are not the big city, for some reason that just doesn’t come to the front of my mind when I think of New York. So when Melanie told me that she is looking into sending Shelly to one of the Sleepaway Camps In New York I was surprised. To be perfectly honest, I just did not realize that such a thing existed!

But when I stop to think about it, there really is no reason that ”
camp” has to be out in the country side, in the middle of the wilderness somewhere. There could easily be a music or drama or dance class in the big city where the kids stay in college dormitories during the night and attend classes during the day. In fact, my youngest son participated in a summer-time camp several years ago that was called “Boys State.” I had never heard of it before, but apparently that is a camp that is rather exclusive in that a high school counselor has to recommend the child to attend the session. The purpose of that camp is to teach high school kids the inner workings of the United States government, and during the session the kids hold mock elections and set up a mock government. At the end of the session a “graduation” type of ceremony is held, and some of the kids are awarded college scholarships based on their participation and performance during the session.

I remember attending the graduation ceremony by myself and sitting on the bleachers in the un-air conditioned gymnasium in the ninety degree heat, wishing that I had worn shorts instead of slacks. The only person that I knew there was my son, and he was sitting with the rest of the kids. I was bored out of my mind, and sweating like I was in a sauna, when the master of ceremonies announced that the winner of the most prestigious scholarship was none other than my kid! I shrieked and all of the other parents sitting beside me asked me if that was my kid, and when I said yes they all congratulated me! That made the day worth while, for sure.

Fashion Bloggers Are Out There At Styledon

All kinds of Social Networks are popping up, they appear to be the newest and most interesting way that people can communicate with each other and make a statement while doing it, much like the days of the C.B. radio, which by the way were a blast. I still remember my “handle” and my call letters, after all these years.

Anyway there is a new Fashion Social Network that I had read about and then today at work one of gals was chatting it up at lunch about Fashion Bloggers and their fashion community which turned out to be the one and the same Styledon.com that I was reading about. Obviously I’m into blogging and fashion is important, so tonight I decided to take a few minutes and check it out, which I did and I have to say that it is a pretty cool concept. It is all about fashions, in a very broad sense and is very user friendly with awesome pictures with brilliant colors which is so much nicer to look at then other well known Social Networks. A pretty cool site if you are into that type of thing.

Indoor Skateboard Park

With the popularity of skateboarding increasing, it seems to me that someone interested in starting a business around here, creating an indoor skateboard park might be a good idea, considering that they only have one outside skateboard park to offer for the entire county’s population of skateboarders. The weather isn’t warm enough for skateboarding year round; and the skateboarders would flock to an indoor park like bees to honey and keep them away from all the places that they tend to gather and get people all worked up about them.

Having things to keep our kids busy and off the streets has always been issue everywhere I have ever been and this would be a good positive step in providing just that for a variety of kids. Maybe I’ll write a Letter To The Editor about it and see what type of reaction I get from it.

Route 66

Back when we were kids, Route 66 was threatening to cut our neighborhood in half and was something that only the grown ups talked about due to all of the hard feelings that came along with the idea of having such a super highway run smack through our town. This last part of the well known Route 66 that was being planned really had an impact on so many people and when it finally did arrive it put a lot of companies out of business, but thank goodness the opposite happened to our family and my step father made out quite well and as soon as the check arrived in the mail he up and moved the whole family to the next county, which made a life long fan of route 66 out of my step father.

So in my quest to find him a good birthday present this year I have managed to find a really nice looking framed poster by KC Haxton of a cool classic car with the famous Route 66 Road Sign in front of it at the Z Galleries website that is known for the chic furniture and decorative accessories.

Cool Tattoo Designs

Not really a tattoo fan but I have seen some that are awesome works of art. I’ve even watched the show on cable called “Miami Ink” and thought the show is cool for giving a couple of excellent tattoo artists some exposure.

On a selection of Bic disposable lighters there are some eye catching tattoo designs showcased as lighter art. The designs are all from a web site called Bullseye Tattoos. I made a note of the site address and went to check it out. Very cool designs – nice site.

I love Weird Al and his parodies

I have to admit that I don’t usually pay much attention to Lady GaGa. I’m sure that when I hear her songs on the radio I enjoy them, but if I were to be a contestant in a contest where I had to name the song and the artist I would lose for certain. I know that she costumes up in order to draw attention and shock people. That is part of her “thing.” But to be perfectly honest I don’t know if I’ve ever seen any of her videos on television or YouTube. So just now I went onto YouTube to look at one of her videos (why, I really don’t know!) and I found this parody by Weird Al instead. There are a few times in the video that I can really tell that parts of the video his head was “photoshopped” onto another performers body, but in a way that makes the video even funnier! What a riot! I would love to see Weird Al perform live sometime, wouldn’t you?

A farewell party

Jane was telling me that Justin has finally decided to accept the scholarship offer at the University of Alabama. That’s the university that his father attended, so they are very proud and happy that he has made that decision. Now they are going to be planning a big farewell bash to be held right before he leaves for school later this year. They are inviting a lot of friends and family and are reserving the community center’s biggest function room for the big party.

Sounds as if they are going to be going all-out with this celebration; catering will be done by Jane’s sister Elise. The food will not be an entire supper, though, it is more of a snacks, cake and beverages type of party. Elise has been in the catering business for years, and she makes some really beautiful cakes. They are going to hire a professional DJ to play music so all of the guests will be able to dance the night away.

Jane and I went online to look for inexpensive Alabama apparel to buy to use as going-away for Justin. She decided to order four short sleeved University of Alabama shirts; three for Justin and one for his father to wear at home.
