Last night my hubby and I went through the Wendy’s drive through to pick up some food to bring home for supper. I ordered one of the apple and pecan chicken salads (which is my favorite) and my hubby ordered a chicken sandwich and a vanilla milk shake. I also ordered one of those baby Frosty drinks that you can get for free if you bought the customer loyalty key tag at the end of last year.

Driving home my husband offered me a taste of his vanilla shake, telling me to get ready for a “sugar rush.” Well, normally I am a big fan of vanilla milk shakes, but let me tell you this milk shake was really nasty! I don’t know what they had done wrong, but it was so awful that I started to gag! My hubby thought it was really funny that I disliked it so much, and said that when we got home he was going to have to dilute it with a lot of milk. I think that the next time I order a vanilla milk shake there I will taste it before I leave! I would have gone back to the counter and told them it was nasty and to give me something different!

I was invited to breakfast today at a restaurant I have never been to before, Mimi’s Cafe. Well, I always enjoy trying new restaurants, and I had some free time, and I really wanted to get out of the house – I have been seriously feeling the cabin fever the past couple of days. The menu was similar in nature to a Denny’s or an IHOP, it had photographs of many of the meals on the menu. There was one photograph of a meal that just looked so good I just HAD to order it – it was a Blueberry Brioche French Toast dish with scrambled eggs and bacon. I asked to substitute link sausage for the bacon, and they said that it was no problem. I also had a glass of orange juice and a cup of Earl Gray tea.

The food was very tasty, but I had a hard time eating it all before it got cold. I honestly don’t know if I would order it again because of that. Maybe if I could order it to arrive spaced out a little bit differently so that they send out the eggs and sausage first and then the french toast arrives about five minutes later. I think if I eat there again for breakfast I’ll ask them waitress to do that for me if it is possible.

My son came home from a meeting with one of his clients this evening and told me that they gave him a dozen eggs from their own chickens. He said that they have a small farm and the chickens are free range. He said he didn’t think we needed any eggs but decided to accept them. So we had breakfast for dinner tonight – scrambled eggs and bacon. We use the Oscar Meyer low sodium bacon and cook it in the microwave oven. One minute per slice of bacon and it comes out exactly perfect – not too limp, not too crisp.

Ever since we switched to low-sodium bacon we don’t order bacon at restaurants anymore; their bacon is so salty that it actually is hard to eat! We’ve tried other brands of low sodium bacon, but we’ve had a lot of trouble getting the other brands to cook up the right way in the microwave. What I like about cooking it in the microwave is that we layer the bacon in between several layers of microwave safe white paper towels, and the paper towels soak up the grease. That makes cleaning up a snap, and I really appreciate that!

Jane was telling me that Justin has finally decided to accept the scholarship offer at the University of Alabama. That’s the university that his father attended, so they are very proud and happy that he has made that decision. Now they are going to be planning a big farewell bash to be held right before he leaves for school later this year. They are inviting a lot of friends and family and are reserving the community center’s biggest function room for the big party.

Sounds as if they are going to be going all-out with this celebration; catering will be done by Jane’s sister Elise. The food will not be an entire supper, though, it is more of a snacks, cake and beverages type of party. Elise has been in the catering business for years, and she makes some really beautiful cakes. They are going to hire a professional DJ to play music so all of the guests will be able to dance the night away.

Jane and I went online to look for inexpensive Alabama apparel to buy to use as going-away for Justin. She decided to order four short sleeved University of Alabama shirts; three for Justin and one for his father to wear at home.

I like the Skinny Cow chocolate snack bars and have been eating them quite a bit over the past couple of days. So when I saw Skinny Cow ice cream for sale in the grocery store, in little individual serving sizes I thought I’d give it a try. So I decided to buy the strawberry cheesecake flavor, and at first taste I really enjoyed the creamy feeling that it had in my mouth. But it had an odd aftertaste that I didn’t care for. I’ll try the other flavors soon to see if I like them any better.

I used to eat Hershey’s Kisses, but one day a lady gave me a Dove chocolate, and now I have been spoiled for life! I was just treating myself to a piece of Dove chocolate, and thinking about coupons, and decided I would go online to see if I could find any Dove coupons to print off. Alas, my search was in vain, but I did find some Dove recipes!

I love Chinese food! I especially love sweet and sour chicken, chicken fried rice, and pan fried dumplings. There’s a really great all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet restaurant in town that I like to go to from time to time, but I really prefer ordering from the menu so that I can bring home leftovers. To me, that is getting the best bang for my buck because I really can’t eat a whole lot in one sitting. My hubby, on the other hand, prefers eating at the all-you-can-eat buffet. He can eat a lot in one sitting!

So I don’t argue, I just go and enjoy eating out – there are no dishes to wash afterwards, and it gives me the chance to try some of the foods that I would not normally order without trying first. Tonight we went to the buffet and I got to eat sesame chicken and king crab legs, which we don’t usually order to take home. So it was all good.

I love to fantasize about preparing a gourmet meal that my family will love. I actually DO manage to try a few recipes from the cook book from time to time! I have collected a large variety of cook books over the years. I have one cook book that my grandmother gave me before she passed away that is dated 1908! I LOVE to read cook books!

It really is depressing to know that the days of being called “Tiny Tina” are long gone. Not only was I called that because I am vertically challenged but I was always on the slender side, so that nickname fit me to the T! These days I am shopping for plus size clothing for women and doing most of that online since you can find a much larger variety and better selection on the Internet than you can find bouncing around from store to store around here.

I am all ready getting worked up and all of the holidays that are coming up here real soon. I always gain more weight during the holidays and the cold winter weather months, as most people do that are battling with their weight gain issues. With Halloween coming up and all of the candies that are handed out so freely everywhere I turn it really bites not being able to enjoy a nice sweet treat once in while and on certain occasions, and you don’t even want to get me started on all of the goodies that come our way for Thanksgiving and Christmas, sigh…
