Coming from a family of horse lovers I really love the idea of the Habitat for Horses site that I just recently found online. Check out this video on the habitatforhorses.org website.

My 11 year old niece is interested in starting in on some horseback riding lessons over the summer so I have started to look around for some items she will need in order to get started, like some footwear for riding horses in case a horse stomps on her foot and of course she will need to buy breeches to wear in order to protect her legs as well. Too many times I got off a horse and couldn’t walk for days due to not wearing the right clothing that you are supposed to wear. Riding horses isn’t cheap, there is a lot involved, but I’m willing to help as much as I can, in fact I think I have some stuff down in the basement that she might be able to use as well. I just hope they are all dry rotted from age, it’s been a while, sigh……

If you don’t have any resolutions for the New Year, may I suggest one? That you resolve to consider adopting a pet from an animal shelter if you can afford a pet and give it a good loving home. Many people buy pets from pet stores, or breeders because they want a purebred puppy. I don’t want to cost any purebred breeders any money, but I’d like to see these abandoned pets at the shelters find good homes! If you can’t afford or want to adopt a pet, then how about donating your used newspapers, and old bath towels to your local shelter? They can always use them for animal bedding in the shelters!

I hope you have a wonderful New Year!

Thanks to Darwin Barton

I thought there was nothing to being married – move in together, live in the same house and generally just be lovey dovey and happy all the time, right? WRONG! Trying to maintain a house with someone who is so completely your opposite is the toughest thing I think anyone can be asked to do and I’ve had a harder time with it than many of my peers. I’m an only child so I’m not used to sharing my space, particularly my bathroom. I give my husband total control over things like the TV in the living room and direct energy rainbow and even the dog but at the end of the day where I keep my stuff in the bathroom is really important to me and he should know that by now. It’s caused more than a few fights but we’re working through it. I figure if the biggest marital issue we have thus far is learning how to deal with each other in a small space then we’re actually doing okay.

A stray dog wandered into our yard this week, and won’t go away. We’ve tried shooing it away, but it won’t go. It appears to be one of those cases where the owner decided to dump it here instead of taking it to the animal shelter. I think that they do that because the animal shelter charges people money to drop off their unwanted animals.

Well, we finally took pity on the dog because of the cold weather and let it come in the house. It’s friendly enough, and seems well mannered. She’s not wearing a collar, so we can’t find the owner by ourselves. We’ll be calling the animal shelter first thing in the morning Friday and let them know we have it in case the owner decides to go looking for it.

I sure am tired of wearing blaze orange when I go outside! Even my dogs have to wear blaze orange vests! Hunting season is almost over, and I, for one, will be glad to see it go. The game wardens cannot possibly be everywhere at once and there are too many hunters out in the woods that are breaking the laws. Last weekend I saw a group of men that were driving deer in the woods behind my house. That kind of unsportsmanlike behavior infuriates me! Calling the game warden does no good at all, they are too far away to respond in time to catch anyone in the act.

I know that it is important to thin the deer population, to keep them from starving in the winter time, but it still makes me sad to see such beautiful animals hunted down. And there is almost always at least one accidental fatal shooting of a hunter each season, or of an innocent resident. Sometimes someone shoots a cow, or a horse by mistake. Every time I go outside I think about the poor woman who was accidentally killed several years ago because she was outside in her yard and a hunter shot her because he thought her white mittens were a deer’s tail flagging!

Hunting season can’t end soon enough as far as I’m concerned.

I’m pretty much a typical girl when it comes to creepy crawly things. I’m all about getting as far away as possible from any critter that crosses my path and finding someone to deal with the killing and the removal process. This year though we have had a really big problem with spiders and I have had to kill more of them then I ever thought was possible. I guess you do anything often enough it gets easier and less painful.

I went the Home Depot earlier today and found some spray for spiders and I also purchased a box of bombs that I made sure dealt with spiders and I’m going to set off one morning before leaving for work and let it do it’s job all day while I’m gone. Hopefully that will make a big difference in the amount of these nasty spiders that have no business in my place!

Seems like you can’t drive more than two or three miles without seeing a dead skunk in the road. Last year I had a family of skunks living under my front porch, and I suspect that they’ve made friends with my cat. Many times the cat comes into the house and has just the slightest scent of skunk on him. I wish I could see how my cat acts with them! I wonder if they cuddle up and nap together.

I’ve owned two of them before so I do know a thing or two about “The World’s Most Misunderstood Breed” I know that you never hear any good/positive news stories that concern this breed of dog, but we do get to read and hear a ton of bad/scary stories all most on a daily/weekly basis. It’s a shame to see how such a great breed of dog is going down hill by the minute.

Tonight is the season finale of one of my favorite shows which airs Friday nights on The Animal Planet “Pit Bulls & Parolees“. I’m tired as all get out right now and would love to do nothing but lay my head down but I want to try and stay awake until 10 so I don’t miss this one episode. I’ve missed a few now and then, hopefully I’ll be able to watch them come rerun time, which is fast approaching us folks!
