Tie Dye Fashions and Bongos For Sale

At the latest monthly meeting for the civic organization that I belong to, much of the talk was about the yearly “Yard Sale” that has given them such trouble in the past with making any profit from. Since I am still pretty much a new member of this wonderful organization I seem to always be raising my hand with questions, ideas, concerns, thoughts and suggestions, which I think a lot of the older members grow tiresome of my intrusions of their time each month. But that was the whole idea of me joining this community organization, which was to bring some much needed new blood and there is no holding me back!

The “Yard Sale” is going to be held on the Saturday of the Memorial Day weekend. We are going to try some different advertising, as well as some new vendors with some colorful and unique items to have displayed out front outside. I have convinced the Milky Way Tie Dye Store to set up there and they certainly have a great selection of bright colors that I think will attract a ton of people that would normally just drive on by. I am thinking of putting a sign with bongos for sale, with my old set of bongos that if some body really wants could take it home for a few bucks. Tie Dye and Bongos. I think it’s almost perfect. I’ve got a few things that I wouldn’t mind putting out on a table for the day.

That Thong Song

I love hearing songs on the radio that I haven’t heard for a long time and then going on to YouTube.com and finding the video to watch and listen to. My recent discovery is Sisco’s “Thong Song” oh how I loved that song when it came out almost a decade ago. It’s funky and easy to dance to, gotta love it!

I remember going to one of the many school functions that I try and attend to show support to my sister’s kids; they had the 7th grade girls dance to this song and I totally freaked. You gotta remember this was over ten years ago, it had just come out and I was finally realizing what the words were and what the whole song was about and then to see this young gymnastic team at a public school do a dance to such questionable music.

I didn’t say anything at the time, but after it was all over and on the way home the subject came up and we all expressed our feelings about the song and the dance. Man, didn’t I feel like such a “prude” and so “old fashioned” about my reaction to the whole ordeal and of course every time I hear this song I think of that day.

Parents Connecting Online

When I was a kid, all that parents had to guide them through the early childhood years was a copy of Dr. Spock’s book and parents or grandparents who were quick to let you know you were messing up. Now, new parents get parenting help from the internet during the pregnancy, through childbirth and newborns, for toddlers and preschoolers, and on up through the years.

On the www.parentsconnect.com web site there are other moms and dads (I love that there are a good amount of dads that are included here) who welcome your feedback and suggestions for problems they are dealing with that perhaps you’ve dealt with successfully, and a sympathetic ear with suggestions for issues that have you frustrated. The site has coupons and deals for saving money on children’s products and services, message boards, and a variety of interesting articles on both classic and timely issues, like the swine flu that scared us all so badly just a few years ago.

Just thought I’d through this out here today for anyone who is a mom, or is going to be a mom, wants to be a mom or knows someone who might be and could find this website useful along the way.

My Baby Girl

The first time I became pregnant I was sure that I was going to have a boy. So when the big day came that we made the urgent and quick trip to the hospital and our daughter was born I was totally shocked, but of course thankful that she was healthy and was able to come home with us in no time. Unfortunately we had prepared for a little boy so we had to return some of the things we had bought as well as buy a bunch of girly stuff that turned out to be pretty fun actually. I had no idea how much fun it would be caring and dressing up a little girl.

I really wish that they had clothes like they have today for kids and these wonderful Australian fashion lines, that are shown in the video below are just too darned cute. It seems that anything you can even dream of is available and with the Internet bringing so much more to us all via the World Wide Web the selections seem to be endless. Sometimes just seeing cute little baby girl clothes makes me think of having another baby, but then I find myself somewhere where there is a crying baby and that urge leaves me – real quick like.

Giddy Up Go Girl

Coming from a family of horse lovers I really love the idea of the Habitat for Horses site that I just recently found online. Check out this video on the habitatforhorses.org website.

My 11 year old niece is interested in starting in on some horseback riding lessons over the summer so I have started to look around for some items she will need in order to get started, like some footwear for riding horses in case a horse stomps on her foot and of course she will need to buy breeches to wear in order to protect her legs as well. Too many times I got off a horse and couldn’t walk for days due to not wearing the right clothing that you are supposed to wear. Riding horses isn’t cheap, there is a lot involved, but I’m willing to help as much as I can, in fact I think I have some stuff down in the basement that she might be able to use as well. I just hope they are all dry rotted from age, it’s been a while, sigh……
